Our bare root currant bushes offer an affordable and reliable way to grow a plentiful crop of berries. With well-developed root systems and sturdy stems, they establish quickly and thrive after planting.
Most currant bushes can be expected to grow between 1.5 and 2 metres in height when fully mature. Some varieties naturally grow more outward and bushy, while others have a more upright form, however with regular pruning, you can manage the height and shape easily to suit your needs.
Blackcurrants have now been recognised for their remarkable disease fighting properties and produce clusters of black berries, rich in flavour and ideal for cooking, juicing, or freezing. Our recommendation would be Ebony as it is the first genuine dessert variety and is a real breakthrough for any grower selling fruit to the public.
Redcurrants produce long trusses of bright red berries and an established bush can produce between 5-6 kilos of berries from mid to late summer.
Whitecurrants are slightly smaller and sweeter than redcurrants. They produce delicate, translucent berries which are perfect for making into preserves, jellies, wines and syrups. An established bush can yield around 4–5 kilos of fruit, usually ripening from mid to late summer.
Our 2 year old bushes are supplied with 2+ strong shoots
