A specialist late season, superbly flavoured PYO variety.

Malwina produces glossy, dark red, firm berries that have a lovely aroma, exceptionally high Brix readings and a really excellent flavour.

The berries are large to very large with over 85% of the crop exceeding 35mm in diameter. The variety is self fertile and very late, cropping 10 days later than Florence. Yields are less than Elsanta.

The berries have a good tolerance to rain and are further protected by a vigorous leaf canopy. Regular picking is recommended to maintain fruit firmness. Malwina is robust, hardy and vigorous, it is resistant to Mildew, tolerant to Verticillium Wilt, Crown Rot and Red Core and shows only a limited susceptibility to Botrytis.

Nitrogen fertilizer should be applied carefully and sparingly to avoid excessive vegetative growth. The variety needs to be protected against Blossom Weevil and Thrips.

Plant from autumn through to late spring in a sunny but sheltered spot with well manured free draining soil. Strawberry runners should be planted every 45cm (18”) in rows spaced at 75cm (30”) apart. At the time of despatch, plants will be semi dormant and may have very little foliage; this is completely normal. Please plant as soon as possible upon arrival, this will revitalise the plants and new growth will start to appear. When planting, spread out the roots and place them in the soil at a level where the crown of the plant is just above the surface. Alternatively, they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per bag), or in hanging baskets or containers.

Fresh dug strawberry plants are available from late October to December. Coldstored strawberry plants are available from January to late June. The prices listed are for quantities per thousand, if you wish to place a smaller order please get in contact with a member of the team.
