• Suitable for white and green
• Very early season with a high production potential
• Suitable for forced production
Gijnlim is a 100% male hybrid and ideally suited for cultivation of both white and green asparagus in high climate zones. This variety is an exceptionally early grower and gives very high productivity. Gijnlim is ideal for forced cultivation conditions.
Gijnlim performs well on sandy and clay soils. The more fertile the soil is, the later spear thickness will remain good even when the season is advanced. Extensive practical experience has shown that the best results for white asparagus are achieved with a planting density of 3-3.5 plants per metre. This plant density can be increased by approximately 30% if the asparagus is harvested green. Higher planting densities give a higher yield but can lead to an accelerated decrease in spear thickness. Thanks to its natural earliness, Gijnlim is ideally suited for extra forcing techniques, such as anti-condensation sheeting, mini tunnels and thermal sheeting.
Gijnlim has a very high production potential and exceptional quality. The main grade is class 16-24mm. Producing an excellent closed tip, the spears are straight and smooth with high rust resistance. Gijnlim has full and heavy foliage. If correct attention is paid to disease control, the foliage remains sufficiently green and strong right into the autumn.
